14 Acts of Love

The Midlands MagazineFebruary 20, 2026

Small ways to fill February with love – for yourself, for others, and for the place you call home.

To Me, with Love …

  1. Buy Local Blooms
Stop by a weekend market or flower stall and buy a bunch for yourself – fill your space with colour. Tulips, proteas, or wild greenery – fresh blooms are an instant mood lift and a gift to yourself. Or … Pick your own bunch of garden or wildflowers! There’s no need to wait for a special occasion to surround yourself with flowers.
  2. Write Yourself a Love Note
Take five quiet minutes to jot down what you admire about yourself – kindness, resilience, or even humour. Tuck it into your diary to reread when you forget how far you’ve come.
  3. Move with Joy
Walk a quiet trail, cycle a back road, or try a yoga class. Focus not on goals but on how movement makes you feel.
  4. The Right People
Make a priority today to spend time with those who lift your energy, make you laugh, and remind you who you are. Love grows easily in good company – choose your circle like sunlight for your soul.
  5. Try a Creative Swap
Organise a mini skill exchange with friends or neighbours: bake for someone in return for gardening help, or swap a photography session for a handmade craft. It’s practical, fun, and builds connections.
  6. Buy an Experience, Not a Thing
Instead of a material gift, support a local workshop – pottery, painting, or cooking class – either for yourself or someone you love.
  7. Write Yourself a Letter from the Future
Imagine yourself a year from now, having achieved your goals. Write a letter to yourself giving encouragement and advice. Keep it somewhere safe and read it later.

To my community, with love …

  1. Send a Surprise Care Package
Mail or deliver something thoughtful to someone unexpectedly: snacks, a book, or a handwritten note. Surprise gifts have a bigger impact than planned ones.
  2. Support a Small or Hidden Business
Go beyond the obvious: look for local artisans, makers, or hidden cafés off the main streets. Your support could make a tangible difference to their business.
  3. Random Acts of Compliments
Challenge yourself to give at least three genuine compliments today – not just to friends or family, but to strangers in a shop, café, or workplace.
  4. Plan a Meaningful Gathering
Instead of the usual dinner, organise a theme-based gathering: a book swap, a movie night, or a community potluck. Invite the right people who energise and inspire you.
  5. Volunteer in a Unique Way
Offer your professional skills to a charity (photography, writing, event planning) or mentor someone locally – it can create a lasting impact.
  6. Reconnect With Someone You’ve Lost Touch With
Pick someone you haven’t spoken to in years and reach out. Arrange a call, meet for coffee, or send a handwritten note. A short note of appreciation or encouragement can brighten someone’s day more than you’ll ever know.
  7. Plant a Living Memory
Plant a tree, flower, or herb as a tribute to someone you love, an achievement, or even for self-growth. Track its progress – it’s a long-term reminder that care and love take root over time.

Love isn’t just for Valentine’s Day. It’s a daily rhythm – a choice to notice beauty, offer kindness, and cherish the moments that make up our lives. Whether you’re loving yourself, your people, or your community, may these 14 acts remind you that the smallest gestures can hold the biggest heart.
