St John’s D.S.G. – All About Heart

A World of Learning

St John’s Diocesan School for Girls is an independent day and boarding school situated in Scottsville, Pietermaritzburg, for girls from Grade RR to Grade 12.

At St John’s D.S.G., our difference is all about heart. Individually and collectively, our girls grow to become kind, courageous, and well-rounded. We believe in providing an enriching, balanced education, anchored in God, that empowers our girls to flourish. Our safe, nurturing environment gives them the love and encouragement they need to become resilient and emotionally intelligent women.

Five years ago, we recognised the need for a transformative space in our Junior School to support our evolving teaching methods, including IBL (inquiry-based learning), coding and robotics. After careful planning and consultation with professionals and schools nationwide, we set work to designing and implementing our Innovation Centre which will officially open at the start of Term 2, 2025.

Previously housing the Grade R, RR, Robotics, and Multipurpose classrooms, this area is being transformed into a cutting-edge learning hub, which will include:

Robotics Lab: A dedicated space for coding, robotics, and hands-on STEM activities.

Computer Lab: Upgraded facilities to enhance digital learning.

Library: A modern, flexible learning environment fostering research and reading.

Makerspace: Featuring a fully functional kitchen for experiments and cooking, alongside tools for creative projects.

The centre is designed with collaborative zones and mobile furniture to support flexible learning setups. This is what the future of education looks like—a place where girls can innovate, imagine, investigate, and invent.

While we embrace innovation, our core remains steadfast: our anchor in Christ, our school values, and our focus on realising the holistic potential of every girl.
