With the world slowly getting back to normal, families get to have more fun together not locked indoors.
The month of April celebrates one of the most family-orientated holidays: Easter. We all look forward to some fun family activities so, I have found some amazingly fun adventures for the whole family to enjoy outdoors.
Starting with sitting high and exploring nature is Karkloof Horse Adventures, a family-run business offering horse trails in the Karkloof Valley. They have been in operation for 21 years, and are a small, rustic trail yard who are passionate about their horses and love offering the experience to people.
Their horses are part of the family and each have their own unique personalities. Matching people to certain horses upon arrival, ensuring safety and a pleasant experience, is an integral part of the job. All rides are overseen by professional guides and have different trails to choose from.
An hour amble for beginners is R250, a two-hour scenic ride is R500 per rider, or a snack ride bringing along snacks and a backpack for three-hours at R600 per rider. Booking is essential with a weight limit, nothing over 88kg.
If you want more of an adrenaline rush, then these next two places will surely get your heart racing.
Visit CheckPoint 103 Activity Hub for some EPIC fun! Featuring their newly constructed outdoor karting track that can race up to 10 karts at a time! The new world-class live lap timing system allows the competitive ones to keep track of their times, and race again and again to get a better time or hit the leaderboard. Epic Karting is available at R160 per person / 10 minutes or R250 per person / 20 minutes.
Their unique two-seater kart lets an adult drive next to a child to let them experience the thrill for R250 /10 minutes. Kids from nine years old can race in their own kart. For younger kids, there are also small electric karts on an indoor track at R50 per child. They also have a new target shooting arena with electronic targets and AirSoft guns at R50. There is also mini putt putt, Nerf target shooting, sand art and other craft activities for children from R30 each. A small gift shop, as well as a café to sit and re-energize, are both on-site for you to enjoy. Walk-ins are welcome. Open from 8:30am – 4:30pm. Closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, but they’re open every day during the school holidays.
With 10 activities at one venue, the possibilities to surprise yourself are endless. Discover the one-of-a-kind, All Out Adventures, situated in the beautiful Northern Drakensberg.
Their guided quad bike and two-wheeler adventure trail provides enough technical challenge for experienced riders. The briefing, lesson and test track make the experience achievable for first-timers, too. The cable tour, featuring long slides and high speeds is suitable for the whole family thanks to the guide-operated braking system.
Adrenaline junkies can get a fix on the big swings. The flying trapeze is an authentic circus rig where participants learn the knee hang and backflip dismount. The king swing is a free-fall swing from a treetop platform accessed by a spectacular spiral staircase that winds around to the treetops.
Kids can enjoy the bungee bounce, target shooting and kids’ zone – an enclosed play area with an obstacle course, swings, trampoline and the zip ski, a thrilling cable slide with an automatic braking system that keeps kids enthralled for hours! Moms and dads can relax with a cappuccino from the coffee shop with seating on the veranda that overlooks the whole park.
The park offers something special for all ages – a brilliant venue for family, office and school getaways. There is no entrance fee, guests just pay for activities. Prices range from R120 to R890 per person.
Let’s make this Easter the best for the whole family and enjoy the many activities you can do in the great outdoors.
